UCB: Top 7 Prospects followup

by on September 10, 2008 · 4 comments

As a follow-up to our UCB project (well, he actually commissioned our lists) Derrick Goold of the St Louis Post-Dispatch has posted his Bird Land 7 over at STLToday.com. Naturally, Derrick chose many different players from the rest of us, and puts up a great read. Thanks to DG and the UCB crew for the […]

UCB: Top 7 Prospects

by on September 7, 2008 · 10 comments

I was asked to take part in a ‘United Cardinal Bloggers‘ project which tasked several of us Cardinal blog writers to list our top seven prospects in the organization.  That was the only instruction, there were no further restrictions.  As such, my list follows: 1.  OF Colby Rasmus – Obviously, any Cardinal prospect list has […]

Felipe Lopez is a winner

by on September 3, 2008 · 5 comments

Courtesy of VEB reader Tackle Box in today’s VEB game post, via UmpBump.com, I present you this: You win Felipe Lopez.  Even if you can’t play left field worth a lick, you win.

Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak conducted a live chat via STLToday.com on Wednesday (it was apparently the second such appearance he’s made over there). I just saw it for the first time yesterday, and I have to say that I was surprised.  Not by the typical Cardinal organization ‘non-answer/generalizations’ like this one: Jason Winders: Greetings, […]

Obviously it took someone far smarter than I to prove it (kudos to Fungoes for imparting the knowledge), but I knew Brad Thompson was more valuable to this Cardinal team than he has gotten credit for. I wrote about Thompson round-about three weeks ago, and his ability to roll with whatever role the Cards asked […]

Apparently Jarrod Washburn has been informed by the Seattle Mariners that he was placed on waivers and some team has claimed him.  The claiming team has yet to be outed, but by waiver rules, the Mariners can work out a deal with the claiming team. Could we be seeing Washburn in a Cardinal uniform soon?  […]

A tale of two offenses

by on July 29, 2008 · 6 comments

Which one will show up tonight? The Cards’ offense has recently exploded for ten runs on Saturday versus the Mets (albeit in extra time) and for twelve last night versus the Braves (albeit versus a rookie, stop-gap starter).  Last night they were even without their slugging centerfielder, Rick Ankiel.  That could be an ongoing absence, […]

With the trade deadline fast approaching, and every post I write seemingly spouting off about “why can’t we trade this minor-leaguer for an All-Star?”, I thought it appropriate to get some information from a better source.  Erik from Future Redbirds was gracious enough to take the time to answer some (admittedly) off-the-cuff questions about the […]

Now, before everyone attacks me about this being a rebuilding year and the Cards shouldn’t be giving up propects for rentals, don’t sell the farm, they’re in this position because Walt Jocketty mortgaged the future for now, etc., please listen. It doesn’t have to be a big move.  I’m not talking about shipping out Colby […]

Before I get too far in, I will preface this post by saying these things: I am not a huge Chris Duncan fan.  I think he is a minus on defense (in the outfield – he doesn’t get enough innings at 1B to make that a reason why he’s on the club).  I can’t stand […]
