St. Louis Cardinals (90-66) versus Los Angeles Dodgers (93-64)
NLDS
Colorado Rockies (88-68) versus Philadelphia Phillies (90-66)

The Phillies and Dodgers continue to play similar to the Cards, that is, relatively poorly compared to their prior months. Philly is 4-6 in their last ten, with the Cards and Dodgers both 5-5.
Philadelphia would get the second seed today, by [...]

Chris Carpenter’s fine outing against the Cincinnati Reds last night had me wondering:
The Cardinals’ starting pitching staff has been phenominal (with a few hiccups) in the last month or so, but are they clearly distancing themselves from the rest of the league in that regard?
Well, classic metrics tell us it is so.
The Cardinal pitching staff [...]

The Cards took two of three from the Wee Bears this weekend, continuing their strong play at home. Sunday was a different story at Busch III unfortunately, but we’re choosing to stay on the postitve side regarding overall outcome of the series.
A few quick hitters this morning, then we focus on the Braves:

Today marks that usual part of the year where we try like hell not to be homers, and usually fail to some extent. Without further delay, our predictions for the NL Central standings in 2009:
Chicago Cubs – Anyone not picking the Cubs at the top of this division is fooling themselves (sorry Sarah!). That’s not [...]

The ink has barely dried on the St Louis Cardinals’ agreement to continue to partner with the Memphis Redbirds as its triple-A affiliate through 2012.
The Pacific Coast League’s Redbirds have been a mainstay in Memphis as the club’s highest level minor league affiliate since the Cards broke affiliation with the Louisville Redbirds (now the Louisville [...]

As I was watching Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, watching the Cards squander another opportunity for a sweep, I saw something that I hadn’t seen from a Cardinal hurler all season. I saw Kyle Lohse stick up for someone on his team. Granted, it was himself he was sticking up for, but he showed [...]
