The off-season
Well, the Cardinals of course had to go and win the last six games of 2008. They finally put together a sweep of a team that they should’ve been putting away all season long. Of course, it was too little too late, and the Redbirds are making tee times.
All that aside, that doesn’t mean that the beat stops until next season.
We plan on keeping up with the Cards during the off-season, down to trades, signings, releases, and everything in between.
We’ll take part in some off-season round tables, put together some (very opinionated) lists of anything and all things Cardinals, and hopefully get in touch with some authorities on subjects Cardinals that will provide some further insight and intelligence than yours truly can provide.

Doing some site housekeeping
In my desire to always provide you, my loyal readers (all three of you), with the best possible experience while you’re on the site, I’ve been looking at ways to try to clean things up around here a bit.
- Getting rid of the calendar - I think it just looks a bit haphazard and doesn’t really provide much benefit. All the archives can be accessed via the monthly links below, or the categories drop-down at the right, or just scrolling through pages.
- No more Google News links - Every time I bother to look closely at them, they always seem to be betting lines or something unrelated to Cardinal news, so bye bye Google.
- Do you all enjoy the Redbird Tweets? I’ve admittedly been lax in posting them, I thought it would be a cool idea, but obviously I have to stay up on them. If they’re useless, let me know, and they’re gone-zo too.
So, those are my plans - I would also welcome any other feedback you might have, things you want to see, things you want to go bye bye - heck, you can make suggestions on things you want me to write about. This is your forum for helping me make this site better for you.

Fare thee well, good Redbirds
I am, unfortunately, going to be pretty much out of commission for the rest of this week, due to commitments out of my control. Yes, that includes not really being able to keep tabs on what happens in the Milwaukee series.
I do plan on returning with a full head of steam during the Labor Day weekend, hopefully in the Wild Card lead at that point.
I’ve asked StLCards to fill in for me a bit in the next couple/few days so that you all will have plenty to bang your heads on while I am away. Thanks StLCards for picking me up.

Redbird Tweets added to PHE
I’ve realized that very often, I have short little thoughts, almost stream-of-consciousness stuff usually - other times I just want to be able to have some of the latest and greatest news tidbits available on the site.
I’ve been trying to come up with a way to incorporate these ‘quick hits’ into the site, and I believe I have found a good option.
You’ll notice in the right sidebar that I’ve linked to a Twitter account I’ve set up, using some code called Twitter Tools (Alex King is a genius, folks). I can send out my quick thoughts and ideas via that medium, and they will be automatically updated on the site here. I can do that from virtually anywhere, at any time. I’m hoping it will be a good way to keep me connected to my Cardinal stream-of-consciousness.
I can’t guarantee that it will be a good addition, and I’d love your feedback. For the time being, I’m anxious to see how this develops…
(P.S. - as for tonight’s game? I don’t even want to talk about it, other than to say thank you Houston.)

Given my recent (hopefully not too regular) travel schedule for work, I’ve asked StLCards to contribute some posts here and there when he feels he’s got something to tell you folks.
I appreciate what he has already added to the site with his post comments and thank him for helping me out.
EDIT: I’ve now added post author to the tagline at the bottom of each post as well as a link to all posts by that author. Hope that helps folks navigate properly.
A fun little tool
I just added a new little function to the site that will allow you, the reader, to receive an e-mail every time someone else comments on a post that you have already left a message on.
Just check the little box below the comments that talks about receiving an e-mail next time someone comments - and BAM - you will be kept up to date via e-mail on that comment thread.
Hopefully this will be useful for some or all of you.

Update under the hood
Well, I got up early this morning all prepared to lay some knowledge on you folks, when I discovered that (well, actually it was kind of forced down my throat) Wordpress had released a new version overnight.
So, instead of Cardinal goodness, the site got an update. I say ‘under the hood’ because most of it is probably functional stuff on my end that you will never see, but will hopefully make life easy on me.
In the meantime, keep an eye out and if something isn’t behaving like it used to, let me know.
