Pitcher to bat eighth, site once again relevant

Ok, so I’m only partially kidding about the last part, but from various sources on Twitter today:

@Fox_Sports_MW

Lineup skip lud pujols holliday ras molina freese CARP ryan-not a typo!!!

@dgoold

It’s retro nite at Busch. Miles signed and pitcher batting eighth. No joke. #stlcards

@solomonsside

#stlcards lineup Schumaker 4, Ludwick 9, Pujols 3, Holliday 7, Rasmus 8, Molina 2, Freese 5, Carpenter 1, Ryan 6. @PitchersHit8th is happy.

Chris Carpenter will hit eighth tonight in what is bound to be a short return to the “offense-goosing” pitcher-hits-eighth gambit.

Any questions about this tactic?  Read our site manifesto of sorts here.

Thanks Tony. *slips a crisp twenty to the manager*

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.
