UCB Roundtable November 1st

by on November 1, 2010 · 1 comment

On Friday, October 29th, the team here at PH8 had an opportunity to fire off a question for the United Cardinal Blogger roundtable, and I gave it my best shot.  I went for a really nasty 12-6 curveball, but I hung it over the middle of the plate, instead.  Naturally, the UCB participants drilled it, [...]

Who’s on Second?

by on October 20, 2010 · 0 comments

Come spring of 2011, several of us Cardinals fans may be asking that very same question. Rather than wait for knowledgeable baseball oracles to purvey insider information to us in the form of #intrigue and #development, let’s do some pondering of our own.  I’ll begin with a list of free agent second basemen that I [...]

Trust me, there will be many, many blogs, articles, and sports segments dedicated solely to the pending free agency of one Jose Alberto Pujols.  Rather than wait for the World Series to end to begin speculating, I want to begin the conversation right now.  It’s not that the playoffs aren’t worth watching, it’s just that [...]

In this follow-up to “Play GM For A Day”, you get to see just how poorly I play the aforementioned game.  While I lack both business acumen and talent evaluation ability, it’s probably my inability to emotionally detach that ultimately will derail my career as a GM.  Honestly, the members of Cardinal Nation may have a [...]

Play GM For A Day

by on September 27, 2010 · 2 comments

Okay, let’s play GM for a day.  Why not pretend to spend someone else’s money and run our favorite baseball team this off-season?  Since many of us question every move the team makes (or doesn’t make), let’s give it a shot.  This post contains some pertinent information which might be useful for making the tough business decisions the GM makes.   There is also some [...]

Where to go from Here

by on September 23, 2010 · 0 comments

Even my wife has decided that trying to watch the rest of this month’s games are difficult at best. The Cardinals were given every opportunity to make the Central a race as the Reds were floundering to open September. Now the best thing to hope for is a second place finish…really? St. Louis can celebrate [...]

Color me puzzled. Allen Craig was hitting .051 and doesn’t really have a position.  I get it.  Not necessarily for Aaron Miles, but that’s not terribly shocking on a Tony La Russa run ballclub. Tyler Greene and Joe Mather have struggled at the plate, it makes sense that their status on the club might be [...]

Cardinals Sign Lopez

by on February 27, 2010 · 1 comment

The St. Louis Cardinals agreed to terms with free agent utility player Felipe Lopez on a one-year, $2 million deal, as first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. This will be Lopez’s second stint with the Cardinals, after being acquired from the Washington Nationals in 2008 via trade. Since Lopez left Washington he has posted [...]

Our initial goal was to have this series done by say…Turkey Day or so but in my mind President’s Day makes a lot more sense. And here’s why — the Cardinals had no clue how the last three months were going to play out and the results to me were still going to be skewed [...]

Disappointment comes in many forms, especially when you are a true fan. A little bit of me dies inside every time St. Louis signs a former Cub, but that is just silly, right? The bigger trouble is knowing that former Cards will play in other uniforms, but does it have to be the Royals and [...]
