On the morning of January 19th, I started collecting links – as many as I can find with minimal effort – that discuss the Albert Pujols contract discussions. Why? Who knows, yet here they are. Oh, and to serve you all, our three loyal readers! The Daily Pujols certainly won’t be a comprehensive list, but between local, national, and blog coverage, maybe you’ll find something here you otherwise wouldn’t. Without further delay, here is today’s Daily Pujols…

Local

Scott Wuerz at the Belleville News-Democrat thinks that the Cardinals will either spend their money on Pujols or stash it away.  ”Let’s be perfectly clear: If the Cardinals don’t sign Pujols, there is no $25 million or $30 million.”

More “what if he leaves?” from the Round Two water cooler at STLToday.com.

The Commish, Rick Hummel lists out possible suitors for Pujols’ services for the Post-Dispatch.

National

Alden Gonzalez, MLB.com: “In this free-agent class, Pujols is king and Prince is, well, prince.”

Jayson Stark’s Rumblings and Grumblings at ESPN.com looks at the market for both Fielder and Pujols.

Angels GM Jerry DiPoto says the Fielder and Pujols free agency scrums are “not something we’re going to aggressively pursue.”

Tom Dowd of the Staten Island Advance says Pujols is going to be a mistake no matter where he signs.

Blogs

C70 at the Bat’s Daniel Shoptaw takes a pragmatic view of the Pujols free agency, by process of elimination.

I70 Baseball’s Greg Leuthen thinks the Cardinals might be better off without the late years of an expensive Pujols deal.

This piece at Rant Sports was so awesome I just had to include it.  Prince Fielder? Nah. Albert Pujols? Pass, thanks. GIVE ME Logan Morrison!

RotoHardball brings Official Prospect of PH8 Matt Adams into the discussion about “replacing” Pujols.

What do the Cardinals look like without Pujols?  Here’s what Matt Snyder at Eye on Baseball thinks.

Juan C. Rodriguez, South Florida Sun Sentinel

Joe Strauss, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

David Brown, Yahoo!’s Big League Stew

Derrick Goold, St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Associated Press reports an offer

Clark Spencer, The Miami Herald

Aaron Schafer, Riverfront Times

At the Fish Stripes blog, Michael Jong thinks the Marlins are very serious about signing Pujols, but deems their chances unlikely.

Can the Marlins ACTUALLY pull this off, signing all of these free agents? Eric Seidman of FanGraphs thinks so.

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.
