The Weekly (?) Pujols – 03.08.2011

On the morning of January 19th, I started collecting links – as many as I can find with minimal effort – that discuss the Albert Pujols contract discussions. Why? Who knows, yet here they are. Oh, and to serve you all, our three loyal readers! The Daily Pujols certainly won’t be a comprehensive list, but between local, national, and blog coverage, maybe you’ll find something here you otherwise wouldn’t. Without further delay, here is today’s Daily Weekly Pujols…

Is there enough coverage of the Albert Pujols contract situation anymore to validate a daily post?  I’ll do my best if the readership demands it, but strangely, things have died down a bit…  I can’t believe this whole “deadline” and “media silence” thing has worked.  Anyway…

Local

AP said in an interview with KFNS that he’d “put them in their place” regarding anyone asking about his contract status after his self-imposed moratorium on questions about the subject.  Got it.

National

John Steigerwald of the Valley News Dispatch (apparently an arm of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review) picks up where Kenny Williams left off, and then goes WAAAAYYY off the rails.  Check out this gem…

The Cardinals, who are owned by a multi-billion dollar company (Anhauser-Busch)…

Yes, this dope not only thinks the Cards are still owner by the brewery, but he can’t even spell it right.  And this clown gets paid for this.  Seriously, what the hell?

Sorry Mark Sutcliffe.  Nice try, but your attempt to connect Jose Bautista and Albert Pujols in the contract vein is filled with many variations of FAIL.  As is the inclusion of Bautista beneath a by-line that contains “Superstar.”

Chicago mouth David Kaplan had a Pujols Cubs jersey made.  SHOCK!  ANGER (not really)!  LOOK AT ME!!!!!?  You’ll never get that $275 back, Kap.

Andy Bernard Brian Bencomo at the Cornell Daily Sun writes that perhaps it is time for MLB to adopt a more socialistic system, with caps and floors, to prevent Pujols from attaining ASININE status.

ESPN.com has an excerpt from Jonah Keri’s new book – The Extra 2% – telling the story of how Pujols slipped past the Rays’ management during the draft.  It’s a great read, as I expect the entire book to be.

Blogs

Jonah Keri writes at Fangraphs that Adam Wainwright‘s injury could open a door to extend Pujols.  Yet it would be at the cost of Wainwright.  Hrmm.  I don’t want to make THAT decision.

Beerleaguer (Phillies blog) thinks that an amended version of the Ryan Howard – for – Albert Pujols trade can now be completed – just add Joe Blanton and PRESTO, totally worth it.

Bill Baer at Crashburn Alley pooh-poohs the Beerleaguer idea.  We like Bill.

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.
