The Daily Pujols – 01.27.2011

by on January 27, 2011 · 1 comment

On the morning of January 19th, I started collecting links – as many as I can find with minimal effort – that discuss the Albert Pujols contract discussions. Why? Who knows, yet here they are. Oh, and to serve you all, our three loyal readers! The Daily Pujols certainly won’t be a comprehensive list, but between local, national, and blog coverage, maybe you’ll find something here you otherwise wouldn’t. Without further delay, here is today’s Daily Pujols…

It’s a bit of a slow day for the DP – most everyone was picking up on the Jayson Stark article we already linked yesterday.  Nonetheless, following is today’s Daily Pujols…

Bernie piling on the perspective in today’s Bits.  With a side of “what if?”

Brian Boyd writes at The University News that Albert Pujols is greedy.  (Ok, maybe I’m paraphrasing a bit, but that’s the overriding them of the post, no?)  Boyd really lost me with this, though:

I’d like to see him, or any other professional athlete for that matter, muster up the courage which the real heroes have to summon on a daily basis. I have a hard time imagining any of these so-called “warriors” having the fortitude to run into a burning building for a mere $50,000 a year. I doubt that half of these overpaid and over-appreciated athletes possess neither the patience nor the compassion to handle a group of four-year-olds with kindness on a daily basis.  Last time I checked, some of these guys can’t even take care of their wife and kids.

Erm, Brian?  Have you heard of the Pujols Family Foundation?  Maybe reading the fourth paragraph here will help?  It’s the one that starts with “Family” and talks about Pujols’ daughter.  If you want to call the guy greedy, so be it – but you failed with the character attack.

The Riverfront Times has a bit about DIE HARD CARDS FAN and his rally.  I’ll let you find the video on your own.

Viva El Birdos provides the national media with an appropriate canned story for the Pujols negotiations – check back when there’s more to report!

I just liked the headline on this post at Cubbies Crib.

Zack Stovall’s laundry list of items meant to entice Pujols to resign.

The Yankeeist doesn’t believe Pujols is on the Bombers’ radar for 2012. (h/t Hardball Talk)

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.
