On the morning of January 19th, I started collecting links – as many as I can find with minimal effort – that discuss the Albert Pujols contract discussions. Why? Who knows, yet here they are. Oh, and to serve you all, our three loyal readers! The Daily Pujols certainly won’t be a comprehensive list, but between local, national, and blog coverage, maybe you’ll find something here you otherwise wouldn’t. Without further delay, here is today’s Daily Pujols…
Local
Scott Wuerz at the Belleville News-Democrat links Albert Pujols to the Cardinals, St. Louis, Stan Musial, and pretty much anything remotely associated with the team. And, dare I say, he’s right.
Fungoes explores highest AAV contracts and how they may or may not impact Pujols’ new deal.
Bernie Miklasz begs for sanity on both sides of the bargaining table. Stop being hard-headed, Albert. Stop pretending that Pujols walking wouldn’t be a big deal, BD2.
National
In a mailbag response, MLB.com’s Marlins writer Joe Frisaro doesn’t completely discount the Fish signing Pujols. Marlin Maniac takes a different approach to the same question.
Dustin Parkes writes at The Score that Albert Pujols may well become the first player in MLB history to make a dollar a second in salary. Wow.
The Sporting News figures Chris Carpenter‘s future with the Redbirds hinges on how much Pujols makes (assuming it’s with the home team). Well, yeah, makes sense – that and whether or not his arm is still attached after 2011.
At MLB.com, Mike Bauman takes an interesting position on the Pujols negotiation. Bauman figures that Alex Rodriguez has been and is overpaid, and Pujols is better – so the difficulty in the contract is trying to pay fair value when market conditions stipulate overpayment.
Blogs
Jon Bois of SBNation.com shows us that Pujols leaving St. Louis wouldn’t be a huge shock in historical terms. I’d venture a guess this will also be one of the few times you read Pujols’ name alongside Travis Hafner‘s in many places this off-season.
