One Year Ago on PH8: A Pujols Extension

by on October 21, 2009 · 2 comments

Fancy that, one year ago Cardinal fans (or at least, yours truly) were concerning themselves about a contract extension for Albert Pujols.

We raised the question about when to approach Pujols and with how much during the 2008 UCB Off-season Roundtable.

Many of the responses were similar to “give him whatever he wants.” Now that the discussions are actually taking place (depending on who you ask), what will the outcome be? Must the Cardinals spend a bunch on another big bat before Albert is willing to commit?

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.

Very crazy timing with the surgery today probably putting to rest any talk of a contract extension for at least the next couple of months I would think. Maybe this is what Albert was talking about when he said there was no rush for a new deal yet…

If I’m the Cardinals, I’m still all in on a contract extension as soon as both parties can find agreeable terms.

A bit ironic that this came up on this exact day, particularly in the midst of this off-season’s Roundtable as well.

Some great discussion in there from last off-season that still applies now.
