[...] One of my personal favorite Cardinal memories was driving in from my new place of residence to meet my Dad before a 2004 World Series game. We were on the phone with each other throughout the day, making arrangements, planning details, when finally it was obvious I wasn’t going to make it into St. Louis until just before first pitch. What to do? Meet at Musial, of course. [...]

Without a doubt, it is one of my favorite Cardinal losses of all time.

Probably my only favorite Cardinal loss, but a good memory nonetheless.

Yeah, crazy how that works - you know, the little 'reply' link. :)

I'll certainly do everything in my power to get into town for the next one. Now if only they would play weekend day games...

Yeah, tongue-in-cheek.

The 'Stros aren't giving up Roy anytime soon, particularly at only a few games out. That team is definitely capable of getting hot, as the end of last season proved.

Now I see how to do the reply to above message (smack forehead on keyboard)

Great memories all around, expecially the WS Championship. I think not being there for it makes it even more special. That way when it happens again, nothing will stop us faithful supporters from being there, no matter where we live.

Nah,

All Houston has left is Roy and look, they are technically in the race. Somehow if Peavy was healthy (Curse of the WBC???) I thought the Astros were the wild card to try and pry Jake away. They don't have any prospects except the catcher that was in the Futures Game -- probably not enough to get a deal done.

Thanks Jake.

I really need to watch those DVDs - my pop has them, but I've never watched. Yeah, I know - burn me at the stake.

Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS I was still further south in the state, watching with proper Cardinal fans after a softball game. I was convinced that home run, that EPIC home run, would propel the Cards to come back and win the series. Oswalt had other ideas.

Speaking of which, shouldn't Oswalt be up for trade by now???

Great post ...Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS was definitely a moment like none other. In the World Series video released later by MLB, Wainwright said about the decisive curve that he just reared back and gave Karlos the best 12-6 curve he had; if Beltran hit it, Wainwright said, his plan was just to tip his hat. Of course, there was no tipping necessary. I had this game stored on my TiVo for about two years, and I would periodically revisit the 9th inning, particularly the pained expressions of Mets fans in the crowd. (Cruel, I know -- come and get me karma). ... However, for me, nothing beats Game 5 of the NLCS the previous year. Two on. Two out. Cards down by two. 0 and 1 to Pujols. You know the rest. It took Lidge two years to recover. Though Oswalt eventually went on to shut the Cards down and clinch the pennant for the Astros, I would argue that the momentum of that swing carried the Cardinals into their 2006 Championship. Anything's possible if you can get Albert up to the plate.
