Adam Wainwright is headed to the 15-day disabled list.
The Cards are classifying it currently as a sprained finger, despite this description:
Wainwright experienced pop in the middle finger of his right hand during the sixth inning of his start Saturday at Houston.
Hopefully a “sprain” in Waino’s finger is not similar to the “discomfort” or whatever excuses they have used in the past for Mark Mulder and Chris Carpenter and their respective injuries, and he will actually be back with the team in 15 days.
With Mitchell Boggs slated to take Todd Wellemeyer’s start tomorrow night, but Welley supposedly due back for the weekend, that still leaves the question of who will start Thursday in Wainwright’s slot. Viva El Birdos thinks it should be Anthony Reyes. I find it hard to argue with their logic.
It also begs the question: Who will take Wainwright’s roster slot for the time being? Might I suggest one Mike Parisi (in the bullpen, of course)?
EDIT: It was late, and I apparently missed the part of Joel Pineiro coming off the DL, so it appears there may be no move from Memphis, and Pineiro could take the start Thursday. Guess that all depends on Joel’s groin. Also, Waino’s DL stint is retroactive to Friday.
