Izzy works 1-2-3 inning

Jason Isringhausen was able to get some work in last night after the Cards got some insurance runs, making the game a non-save situation.

Izzy threw 15 pitches, 10 for strikes for a line of:

J Isringhausen 1.0 0 0 0 0 0 0 15-10

While he still left a couple of balls up that got hit hard, he mixed in quite a few curveballs with the cutter, mostly leaving the fastball on the shelf. I liked this approach from the veteran – the curveball has been his out pitch for the last few years anyway, I’m not sure why he had gotten away from it. When he’s going good, that curve is nasty – like Darryl Kile Darryl Kile (miss ya DK), Adam Wainwright, Matty Mo (in his prime), 12-to-6 downright nasty. He threw one to, I think it was Adam LaRoche last night that the kid could only look at and wonder where it came from.

He’s not all the way back yet – but don’t be surprised if he exercises these demons and gets that 300th save before the All-Star break.

Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.
