Writing about the Cardinals and other loosely associated topics since 2008, I've grown tired of the April run-out only to disappoint Cardinal fans everywhere by mid-May. I do not believe in surrendering free outs.

ugh – wasted opportunity

Pujols has seemed strangely pedestrian the last two games, both against Marquis and this first AB.

He needs some Brandon Backe to get right…

Rockies hitting the ball hard – Pineiro buying into the patented Dave Duncan “Let ‘em hit it” strategy.

Probably lucky to get Helton at second there before more damage.

Duncan looks like he still has some kinks to work out at the plate.

Hawpe follows Soriano in homering after error-prone defense.

*sigh*

Nice work by Pineiro to get out of it…HR beside the fact.

WOW! Larry Walker in Denver, in a Cards uniform, in their dugout? Nice!

Pujols again looks average.

I wonder if he’s chasing, frustration setting in.

That’s why the PITCHER HITS EIGHTH

Nice work Joel!

What a great AB by Pineiro. You get donked by a pitch you shouldn’t have been swinging at in the first place, then work it to 3-2, forcing Jiminez to throw 11 pitches in the process…

Then double down the line to help yourself. Love it when a plan comes together.

Duncan is doing his best Soriano impression out there.

Get him out now. Immediately.

Adam-

If you weren’t so busy looking at the ball instead of running, you might have made it.

Did you play Little League ball?

Sincerely

Hot dog – Dunc does know how to use that glove.

I think the Rockies have the worst local TV guys in the league.

Nice job to get out of the inning by Villone.

Is it just me, or is every ball “pretty well hit” at Coors Field?

Can’t win ‘em all Waino.

C’mon rook…rooting for Parisi.

Attaway Rick.

Big first outing for the rook – nice work Parisi.

Lots of empty seats in Denver. Too bad.

Duncan sucks tonight. What a waste.

Luddy!

Wow, what a terrible call.

If anyone knows whether he was safe or not, it’s Yadi. He’s been on both sides of that situation a lot.

Cards have a real beef there, IMO.

Nice hit for White Goodman. If you can’t dodge a wrench, you can apparently muscle up for a 5 foot base hit.

PHE May 5, 2008

Hey Clint Hurdle – I’ll trade you the strikeout for the run that you got from Molina.

Once again AP comes through when it counts and he has seen lots of pitches.

Really hard to believe what is going on here. The home plate umpire Davidson has really been under fire tonight.

That said, Pujols looked like he may have actually sneaked his leg in there before the tag up high.

That is exactly how Izturis should be used, and how he helps this team.

Kudos TLR.

That’s a winner!

Both teams manage to put on a great show despite some moron behind the plate thinking he’s the story.
